Lawn Transformations

BEFORE
AFTER

This is the same lawn but shot from the opposite end – and after aeration, scarifying, weed treatment (in this case a nasty infestation of Field Woodrush) iron & seaweed treatment. It’s then been cut with a roller mower and double-striped for best effect. This will soon need a slow release summer fertiliser and possibly a wetting agent to prevent it drying out through summer.

The 2 images above of the same lawn shot from a different angle, demonstrates the value of multiple scarifying, aerating and feeding – to give the striped result with a deeper green you can see in just a few weeks. This lawn will continue improve with targeted treatments at the right time.

AFTER

The close up image above is typical of many lawns; weed infested, moss infested and with little grass showing through. The transformation of the same lawn is after 2 months of scarifying, selective weed killing, over seeding and top dressing. It’s not perfect yet, but we are well on the way!

Green Thumb & other lawn care companies would have you believe that 1 or 2 scarifies a year is all it takes – which is nonsense. There are several ‘types’ of scarification, and choosing the right one at the right time, as well as being guided by what the lawn is telling you, are much more important than blindly doing the same thing at the same time year after year. The transformation you see above is a result of following those practices after just 2 months. There is plenty of improvement left in it yet! This lawn has had 2 mechanical scarifies and several ‘hand scarifies’ to get it to this standard.

Here we see where I’ve over-seeded and top-dressed a lawn, then about 6 weeks later we have the result on the right. It’s not finished (this is a PROCESS), as there are inevitably bare patches to deal with, but the change in quality is clear for all to see.

This is just part of a large and heavily moss and weed infested lawn. The first image shows just one of many deep scarifications, then about 6 weeks later, after an iron & seaweed treatment, and a selective weed killer treatment. There’ll be more scarifications to come, and more fertilising, but you can see how we’re heading in the right direction. This lawn will draw attention come summer time. Here I’ve ‘double-striped’ it, to give greater contrast between the stripes. These will get a lot more noticeable when I get the cylinder mower onto it.

A very old, weed and moss infested lawn in March. After selective weed treatments, numerous scarifies and ‘double striping’ with the mower, we have a startling turn-around!

Latest lawn transformation. Is it perfect? – no, the area under the tree had to be re-seeded as it received no rain water, and there are still some small patches to attend to, but overall, you can see the difference is a very positive one.

This one is a new Lawn Care customer who’s had Green Thumb for years. The main issue is that continual feeds with only one ‘deep’ scarify a year has left a thick thatch issue on the surface, making it too thick almost to cut properly. I’ve started regularly scarifying  – but only lightly, to get into that layer without setting the grass back too much, and will continue adding nutrients and other beneficial lawn products as per the Silver Lawn Care package to improve things. It’s early on in its journey, but I think the improvements can be seen after only a few weeks. They’ll soon forget they ever had Green Thumb!

This customer has a very large lawn (approx 250 square metres). It was heavily weed infested, very mossy and generally in poor condition. It’s taken 3 months of repeated scarifying, and applications of selective weed-killer, liquid iron, wetting agent, foliar feed and slow-release summer fertiliser to get it to this stage. As the nitrogen kicks in over summer, this lawn will now go from strength to strength. All of these treatments are included in every one of the 3 LAWN CARE PACKAGES – email for details.
